Booming Ice Chasm.

Named after its unique and deafening acoustics and up to 140m below the Canadian Rocky Mountains, this cave must be entered via the huge ice slide (shown above). This slide is formed from water that drips into the cave and freezes; it is several metres thick, completely clear and continues throughout the cave floor system.

Cavers have said that it gives them the feeling that they’re flying and can be very disorientating. Body temperature is difficult to maintain: you don’t want to get too cold or too hot, as the sweat would only serve to make you colder quicker.

What’s more, one slip on the descent could be fatal, especially if you land against the wall. Trying to rescue an injured person is even more difficult and it has been known to take days to achieve, some people have died from exhaustion or hypothermia in the process.
